“Laughter is the best medicine” is a phrase that dates back to biblical times as an old Proverb and it’s still widely used today all over the world. That’s because it’s true!

Let’s take a look at what happens inside your body, mind, and spirit when you laugh.

Laughter’s Effect on Your Body

Endorphins are released throughout your body, stimulating muscles, nerves, organs and tissues when you laugh. Studies show these endorphins give relief to chronic pain, help to relieve stress and promote the functioning of the immune system. Laughter literally helps heal your body.

Laughter and Your Mind

Happy thoughts lead to a more positive outlook on life. When you’re hanging out with friends and having good conversation that produces smiles and laughter, your mind’s producing happy thoughts.

On the other hand, if you’re always around people who never smile and always find something to complain about, you’ll lean toward a more negative outlook on life.

Strengthening Your Inner Being

Laughing causes your inner being to be emotionally and physically strengthened. When you laugh or even smile, your inner being is stimulated in an affirmative way, producing a more positive outlook on life. This helps your body produce more self-healing endorphins, which actually helps your body remain healthy and running optimally!

Boosting Your Spirits

Laughter causes a lift in your spirits, helping you feel uplifted. Laughter not only helps you personally, it’s also very contagious and infectious, which helps those around you feel less stress and anxious.

Don’t you just love it when you hear a baby or toddler laugh? What happens to you? You can’t help but laugh too! Laughter begins to develop in humans as early as 3 months of age and a baby’s laughter is one of the most contagious of all human sounds.

Laughter and Your Relationships

When two people share a funny story or a silly situation arises between two people, there’s a unique bonding that is created. Something special is formed between the two that only they can relate with. It’s an inside joke that is special to those who’ve shared in the moment.

When two people spend a lot of time together in laughter, a stronger, more ever-lasting relationship develops.

In a marriage, studies show couples that laugh together stay together much longer, if not for life. Think about a truly happy couple you know. Sure, every family has their issues and marriage takes work, but chances are they spend a lot of time laughing together. This doesn’t happen by accident either. It can be created and fostered!

When you choose to embrace laughter, you’ll be able to get through many more rough spots in life and come out a happier and healthier person.

Life can be tough, so why not choose to make it more joyous? You can if you choose to.

Always try to find joy in every situation and laugh as often as possible each and every day. Also, by spending more time around positive people, who love life and love to laugh, you’ll be amazed at how you begin to feel on the inside and out!

As a solopreneur you decide to Create a Great Day, It’s a choice.

July 1st is International Joke Day. That has inspired me to focus on laughter for the entire month of July.

Laugh Your Way to Good Health: The Many Health Benefits of Laughter

Everybody enjoys a good laugh, whether it’s from a sitcom on TV, a live comedy show, or because a friend made a fool of himself. When was the last time you took some time to relax and find something to laugh about? Not just any laugh, but one of those deep belly laughs that clears out your tear ducts!

If you are among the many adults who have a hard time relaxing you’ll be surprised to know that there are real health benefits to laughter. Yes, it sounds rather crazy, but your favorite sitcom can do wonders for your health!

How Can Laughter Help?

When you laugh, your body releases endorphins into the blood system. Endorphins act like natural pain killers and are also responsible for making you feel happy. The best part is endorphins are completely free of any side effects – it’s all natural! That’s why you feel a “natural high” after the right dose of laughter.

Laughing not only leads to a feeling of well being, but it can also do the following:

Lower blood pressure – This cycle starts with the blood pressure rising when you start to laugh but then it decreases to levels below normal. When you take deep breaths while laughing, more oxygen-rich blood is transported quickly throughout your body.

Reduce stress and increase your attentiveness, heart rate and pulse – When your heart rate and pulse is elevated, you’ll feel more energized. Of course, being more attentive can lead to better learning and growth.

Make your heart grow stronger – For a long time now, heart specialists have established that mental stress is particularly harmful to the heart and is one of the leading causes behind the build up of fat and cholesterol in the coronary arteries. By laughing and reducing that stress on a regular basis, you’re helping your body reduce that fat buildup while reducing your risk of a heart attack.

Lower blood sugar – Laughter helps with reducing stress and stress often leads to an increase in blood sugar levels.

Laughter as a Form of Exercise

When you throw back your head and laugh, you’re actually working your muscles from the hips to the shoulders. Since laughing involves taking in and releasing of air, the expelling of carbon dioxide and the intake of oxygen, your internal organs and core muscles get a good workout every time you laugh heartily. It may sound silly, but it’s true.

Ever heard of “laughter yoga?” It’s a form of yoga class where you perform the regular stretches while getting silly to induce laughter. Activities range from imitating animals to speaking in gibberish. If you think this sounds odd, you’re right. It is! But we have to stop taking life so seriously and start having fun!

Improve Your Mental Health with Laughter

Everyday you’re faced with challenges and it’s completely up to you how to confront them. You can choose a positive attitude or a negative one. Laughing when faced with a challenge can help lift your mood (as well as those around you) and maybe you’ll be able to view the challenge in a positive light. This will help you reduce the stress and get things done quicker.

Laughter is generally followed by a sense of relaxation, hence it’s a good form of stress relief.

Use laughter as a way to reconnect with your family, especially during troubling times. When you laugh you generally talk more, make direct eye contact, and even get into closer contact.

A Laugh a Day…

Laughter has many physical benefits to your overall health and well-being but you obviously still need to exercise, eat well, and go for your routine checkups. Nevertheless, there are simply many perks to laughing and it will help you enjoy the hysterical life that surrounds you!

“There are high spots in all of our lives and most of them have come about through encouragement from someone else. I don’t care how great, how famous or successful a man or woman may be, each hungers for applause.” ~ George M. Adams ~

Don’t allow discouragement to kill your hopes and dreams. Promise yourself that you will not get distracted with life’s incessant problems. Stay focused on the beauty of your dreams. And remember, you cannot succeed on your own. You need the hearts, minds and helping hands of others to move your hopes and dreams off the page and into your life. And there are others needing the same support from you.
I want to challenge you today to encourage someone else. I think you will find that when you give it away you will also receive. Take that energy that you receive and take inspired action on one of your dreams.
There is no greater gift we can give one another than encouragement.
By the way if you could use some daily inspiration you can sign up at the bottom of the page.

Self Care for Balanced Living

Balanced Life

Are you living a balanced life or is your life more hectic than ever? Do you find that you become tired more frequently, lose patience easily, experience moodiness, and are so stressed that you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel? Have you lost contact with your friends? Has fun completely gone out of your life? While we tend to think we can do it all; the problem is we can’t. We forego simple pleasures, take on unnecessary burdens and, quite frankly, put other’s needs before our own. This is health canada pharmacy a recipe for ill-health, depression, and overall sadness. It’s time to sit down and determine how to live a balanced life. As a solopreneur it is more important than ever to take care of yourself.
Performing selfless acts is noble, but it takes a toll we may not be aware of. There is nothing wrong with being selfish. While everyone seems to be concentrating on themselves, you are focusing on them. The first step to a balanced life is to think about you and your needs. If you fall apart, you won’t be of any use to anyone. And as a solopreneur if you are not on your game your business suffers. Selfishness is not defined by an inability to help others; it is the means by which you regenerate yourself by focusing on your own needs. Simple ordinary pleasures can make a world of difference in your life such as: a manicure, a day out with friends; a new outfit.

Selfcare for a Balanced Life

You’re mental and emotional state has more to do with the balance within than you realize. Worry drains us; yet we can’t seem to control it. We tolerate many things which essentially drain our energy, leaving us feeling empty and void of feeling. Sleepless nights ensue, and the cycle begins all over again the next day. Confront the problems head on; let the water out of the tank before it bursts open. Worry about the things you can control.
Protect your space from intruders who are intent on invading your thoughts and inner peace. If someone is rude or makes a disparaging remark; walk away. If a situation arises creating angst, deal with it then let it go. Don’t let it disrupt your life by claiming it as your own. You didn’t create it, nor are you responsible for it. Try not to solve the ills of the world or place the burden on your shoulders. Life is hard enough without placing unimportant needs ahead of your own.
A path well taken is one of integrity and honesty. Love yourself; look in the mirror every morning and acknowledge the unique person you are. Empower yourself to accomplish your most intimate goals. Acknowledge the kindness and good in you; you may be hard pressed to find anyone who will. Conduct yourself with dignity and honor. Finally, take charge of your life; nurture it, reward it; and the balance within will reveal itself through the smile on your face, and the gleam in your eyes.

You might want to examine this self care checklist to get started on living a more balanced life.

Happiness

Believe it or not, it is within your power to create positive thoughts allowing you to accomplish anything you set out to do. Can you really think yourself happy? The answer is a qualified yes. Here are the ways in which positive thoughts can help you accomplish many things in your life and business.
Positive thoughts produce positive results. We can either bemoan our situation, or change it. We can be negative about an event or enthusiastic. President Lincoln once said, “Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” If you really want to think yourself happy, then make up your mind to do so. Remembering that each day we make a choice how we will approach that day. One person, one idea, one positive thought can change society. How, then, can we make ourselves happy? By being a constant reminder to others that there is goodness in the world. And in the choice to observe what is good in our lives the good over shadows any of our challenges.
* Seek out positive people to associate with.
* Expose yourself to all the wonderful books, music and movies available.
* Find the one important thing in your life that’s important, and pursue it.
* Show kindness and respect towards others.
* Live life as if every day is your last.
* Use positive reinforcement wherever and whenever you can.
* Use visualization methods to view the positive aspects of life.
* Speak in a positive tone.
* Rid your mind of negative thinking with yoga and exercise.
* Let your expectations reflect your positive attitude.
* Allow peace of mind to envelop you.
* Become your own best friend.
*Smile often and share that smile with others.
You will notice that when you choose to be happy and you share that happiness with others it will impact your business. People prefer to do business with others that make them feel good.
There is a wonderful poem which clearly explains how unhappiness can thwart our every desire.
If you think you are beaten you are;
If you think you dare not, you don’t;
If you want to win but think you can’t;
It’s almost a cinch you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose you’re lost;
For out of the world we find
Success begins with a fellow’s will;
It’s all in a state of mind.
Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger and faster man.
Happiness is not a genetic trait we are born with. It is ingrained in us by our parents and those we love. It is up to us, then, to maintain it, share it, and build our lives around it. Think happy, and you will be happy.

Stress sends our bodies into an alarm reaction also called fight or flight response, and the body releases adrenaline, causing muscle tension, raised heart beat, increased breathing and perspiration, eyes dilate and the stomach may clench.
If the cause of the stress is not removed the body runs our of its reserve of body energy and immunity, and the body experiences “adrenal exhaustion”. This leads to decreased stress tolerance, pregressive mental and physical exhaustion, illness and collapse.
Running on Adrenaline
Adrenaline is designed to give us the energy necessary to survive life-threatening situations. When we are in a state of constant anxiety, the adrenal glands work overtime. Many of us are so tired out by our busy lives that we maintain an anxious state just to get the extra boost. We may even become dependent on adrenaline as our primary source of energy.
The problem is that our bodies are designed to use adrenaline only occasionally, for short periods of time. Overusing it stresses the adrenal glands, causing a variety of health problems — some of them serious.
Some of the ways we keep our adrenaline pumping are:
• Rushing from one task to another
• Living with a constant hum of anxiety – the feeling that there is something we should be doing.
• Tolerating poor sleep patterns.
• Constantly checking voice or e-mail.
• Consuming junk food, caffeine and sugar.
• There are several tangible steps you can take to slow down:
• Get a physical that includes an adrenal stress index saliva test.
• Slow down in everything you do: walking, talking, writing, etc.
• Practice deep breathing.
• Take a warm bath.
• Use relaxation tapes.
• Remove distractions (such as ringing phones, TV, etc.)
• Clear away clutter to create visual clarity.
• Shut the office door.
• Check your voice/e-mail only at appointed times. Turn off for 2 hours per day.
• Do not schedule appointments back to back.
• Stop juggling tasks – do complete work.
• Maintain boundries — start saying no.
Challenge

Pick two items from the above list to experiment over the next 7 days and of course if they help put them into daily practice.
1. Purchase a journal to record your experiences.
2. Set aside time for yourself. Use your calendar to block out “time” for yourself every week for the next three months. An hour a week that you do not allow yourself now will turn into sacred time that you truly look forward to.

Last week, I talked with a young woman about her business and our coaching services. She mentioned that her biggest challenge was finding more time in her day. She felt she either needed more hours or would have to cut back on sleep, which is never a good solution. This got me thinking about how we can uncover extra scraps of time.

Personally, I get frustrated when I’m stuck waiting, whether it’s in a doctor’s office or a long line of traffic. It drives me nuts to feel like I’m wasting time. I realized that being prepared could help us make the most of these idle moments. So, I put together a tote bag to keep in my car, filled with things to do during these scraps of time.

Here’s what I included in my tote bag:
– Two books: one business, one for pleasure
– Note cards and a nice pen
– A couple of magazines, a pair of scissors to cut out interesting articles
– A list of quick tasks

This list helps me stay productive, even when I’m frustrated and can’t think of what to do. Here are some ideas from my list:

1. Make a quick call to a prospect or client.
2. Review your to-do list.
3. Write a brief note or card to a former client.
4. Listen to a motivational or training tape, or read.
5. Complete some paperwork.
6. Plan your strategy for capturing the next client or target market.
7. Compose a new prospecting letter or a story for your newsletter.
8. Do a stress reduction exercise.
9. Make a list of things in your life you are most grateful for.
10. If others are around, make a new friend.

I hope you find these tips helpful. Do you have any suggestions to add?

Personal mission statement is a brief description of what you want to focus on, what you want to accomplish and who you want to become in a particular area of your life over the next one to three years. It is a way to focus your energy, actions, behaviors and decisions towards the things that are most important to you.
While there is no right or wrong way to write your personal mission statement the following guidelines may be helpful:

Keep it simple, clear and brief. The best mission statements tend to be 3 to 5 sentences long.

Focus on and who you want to become as a person (character) in this part of your life. Think about specific actions, behaviors, habits and qualities that would have a significant positive impact in this part of your life over the next one to three years.

Make sure your mission statement is positive. Find the positive alternatives to any negative statements.

Create a mission statement that will guide you in your day-to-day actions and decisions. Make it a part of your everyday life.

Think about how your mission affects the other areas of your life. Is it consistent with your other personal mission statements?
Will it conflict with or contradict something else? Is it balanced?

Make it emotional.

Remember that your mission statement is not forever. It will continue to change and evolve as you gain insights about yourself and what you want out of each part of your life. My mission statements change as my aspirations change. As I grow and evolve
Two of My Mission Statements…
“To create a profitable membership website with an exciting atmosphere, great learning, support and excellent service where solopreneurs truly enjoy coming to prosper. To provide a safe and energizing environment where our members and providers gain great value. Where solopreneurs are attracted and refer others.”
“To exercise and meditate daily and eat healthy foods. I will strive to make a positive difference in every person I interact with and always continue to improve my mind, body and spirit. I will continue to learn and grow spiritially and intellectually, remaining full of gratitude at all times.”
Your mission statements should guide you in your everyday actions and behaviors. It is helpful to keep them visible. My are posted above my desk, documented in my PDA and kept in my purse. If you have fully commited to your mission it will become easy to make decisions about your everyday actions. I use mine to help me resolve what I believe to be conflicts all the time. What I find out is when I am following my mission and values those conflicts simply fade away.
I would love to hear what your mission is for any portion of your life. Please post it below.

I am sure you have heard many times you should have a personal vision and mission statement. I find that many people are confused about the purpose of both. Vision statements describe your own unique vision of what an ideal experience in each of your life areas would be like. They tend to focus on the distant future looking forward five to ten years. They represent an ideal outcome.
Mission statements are based on your current situation and what you need to focus on in the next one to three years to move you closer to your long-term vision. While vision statements are passive, focusing mostly what you want to experience, mission statements are active focusing on your actions, behaviors, habits and character.
Your mission and vision statements compliment each other. Vision statements show you an idealized description of your ultimate destination, while mission statements represent your chosen path to get you there.
Vision statements: The purpose of your vision statement is to create a mental picture filled with emotion that energizes, inspires, motivates, and stimulates your creativity, not to serve as a measuring stick for success; that is the job of your objectives and goals. Make your vision statement descriptive, how you will feel when the outcome is realized. The more descriptive detail you add the more passion will be expressed and the more powerful your statement becomes. Step into your vision and describe your surroundings, the colors, scents, sounds and shapes. Who is with you, what are you doing, describe your emotions how do you feel when you have achieved your ideal outcome?
Focus on your vision statement today, next we will look at writing your mission statement. Be sure to evaluate whether your vision is supporting your values. Those things you believe in that guide you and are most important.
